MY WORLD TUESDAY: GREEK PASCHA (ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟ ΠΑΣΧΑ)

ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ ΑΝΕΣΤΗ !!!
( Christos is risen)

This is a wish we say every day, when we see someone, from the Resurrection of Jesus till Whitsun (Pentikosti, Πεντηκοστή).
Our Pascha begins with the Resurrection on Holy Saturday night.
My family and my parents went to celebrate all together the Resurrection at my sister's home.
But first we made a cross at our front door with the Holy Light (this light comes from Jerousalim, from the Holy Grave of Jesus).
Then i put the Light in my oil lamp.
For the dinner i cooked soup with lamb and lamb with potatoes in the oven.

My mother cooked the tradition magiritsa (with the entrails of the lamb, liver, spleen, etc) and my sister made lamb in the oven in baking paper.

Go and see Marina's blog

http://marinaslifefamily.blogspot.com/

for more information about her cooking.

The next day, Sunday of Pascha (Κυριακή του Πάσχα),

we celebrated all together in our garden.

The three men, my hubby, my brother-in-law and my father, set the lamb on the spit at 9 am and they started the spitting.

At 11 am we had a pre-lunch meal for the grillers.

For lunch we ate lamp, kokoretsi, red eggs, greek salad, farm salad, fried potatoes, tsatsiki and we drank wine.

For the tsatsiki you need cucumber, garlic and yogurt.

For dessert we had Olga's birthday cake.

Her birthday was six days ago but we couldn't eat cake then.

So we celebrated her birthday on Sunday.

We finished our lunch at 5:00 pm, we took a bath and the rest of the day we were trying to recover from the food and the weariness.

to see other places in our world.

Beautiful post Antigoni.
You have the same meal like we do here, unfortunately I hate lamb meat, but I could eat a piece of that amazing cake.

Antigoni: The Greek people really know how to celebrate with food. I would love to someday visit your country.

Delightful! Happy Easter, Antigone.

PS Tsatsiki is a favorite of mime, but I bet yours is better! :)

The traditional magiritsa is very interesting. We as Chinese eat a lot of entrails too.

Thanks for sharing your custom with us. Your daughter is very lucky.

Everything looks so delicious. Your photos are admirable.

I have never tasted lamb or sheep. I had one once and have been around them but never thought of them as food.

What a wonderful Easter meal! Happy birthday to Olga! My Easter Sunday was very nice. The service in church was beautiful and the music great.
Good Friday is always a sober day with a lot of sadness because of the cruel death of Jesus. I listen then to the Matthew Passion of J.S. Bach. But Easter is the feast of resurrection with happy music and flowers. A great idea to make a cross at your front door! We should also do that! The children painted the lids of shoeboxes with scenes of the 40 days before Easter, and placed all these lids in the shape of a cross in our church.

Do you exchange the red eggs? For the Chinese, at birthdays, red eggs are given out to people attending the occasion.

RE: Rangitoto, now it is considered dormant, there is no activity, but we don't know if there will be in the future. At Ruepehu, not too far from here, we still have an active volcano.

The food looks all delicious! But the cake looks too good to eat:) Happy belated birthday, Olga!

Christ is risen! I love reading about your feasts and family times. I couldn't imagine a 10 year old waiting for a birthday cake because of Lent. These traditions are no longer followed here yet they are so rich in meaning.
