MY WORLD TUESDAY: A WONDERFUL TRIP PART 2

Second day at Goura, Feneos, Peloponisos.
We woke up at 7:30 am and at 8:30 am we went for breakfast.
It was a rainy day, at first, and the breakfast room had big windows so you could see the rain and the mountains outside.

We had a generous breakfast with coffee, tea, eggs, marmelades, home made cookies and cakes, bread, ham and cheese, juices, honey and always a smile in the face of the owner.

The minute we finished our breakfast, it started to snow.
Light snow for the beginning and heavy snow after a while.

It was time for adventure.
We put on our gloves, scarves and bonnets and we left the hotel.
First we visit the Monastery of Agios Georgios (St.George) up to the mountain (1100 m altimeter).
It's an old Monastery with a few monks and a great view.

In the church, during the Tourkish command around 1800, the monks gathered the children to teach them reading and writing and the Orthodox tradition.
They built a loft above the church as a hidden school (κρυφό σχολειό).

The view from the wooden balcony is amazing.

You see the lake Doxa (λίμνη Δόξα) with the small church of Agios Fanourios in the middle.

Then we went up to the mountains (1800 m altimeter) for more snow.
And we found it.
At last, i'll post some snow photos.

And a beautiful rainbow on our way down from the mountain.

At 2:30pm we had lunch to a beautiful tavern and we went back to our hotel at 5:00 pm.
The evening was the same with the previous day.
Coffee, chocolate, omelette and table game till midnight.

Join me next week for part 3.

to have a world tour.

Hi Antigoni!
Is it ruin in the river?
it looks like bridge or the entrance?
I like seeing old ruins!

Wow, you have had snow! When I was in Greece in April 2007 there was very beautiful weather. Here in Holland we haven't had snow yet.

Hallo Antigoni, what a beautiful tour you had! It must have been very exciting for your children to have snow! The old monastery is great! I loved the pictures you took under the steep roof, the old carved logs. And, of course, the view over the lake!
When we were on vacation, we also played games like UNO until midnight with the children...
Nice memories!
Thank you also for your kind comments on my blog, I am happy to hear that you enjoy my little strolls through Vienna. The oriental food was excellent! I love the spices they use! Uhhh!
Have a nice week!

What a delightful day! Love the old Monastery shots. The stone arch looks incredible! Hot chocolate sounds just the thing after a cold snowy day!

How nice that you can drive up to the snow and then drive down to the warmer weather. Very interesting post, and a nice family picture.

That's a family adventure ... and yes, I remember in Arizona if we wanted to see the snow we had to travel up the mountain to find it ...

Ανώνυμος είπε...

Beautiful - the photos of Lake Doxa could be the setting for a fairy tale.

What a wonderful trip, indeed.
A generous breakfast is recommended with that weather.
Who imagine there's so much snow in Greece. We're used to hear about heatwaves.
The scenery deserves the trip in the cold.
What surprises me the most is the hidden school. Monsks had certainly to hide themselves from teaching. That's very interesting.

Leanne είπε...

Thank you for share that with us I love your photos of the monastery.

George είπε...

Thanks for a wonderful tour. The monastery was especially interesting and the view from there was fantastic. I'm glad you got to make a snowman in the mountains.

I have been to Greece in May last year, doing a roundtrip. It was phantastic ! It seems so strange to me seeing now pictures with snow !!

What a BEAUTIFUL old church! And your family is even more BEAUTIFUL :)

I remember that greek coffee, though, and it's pretty strong compared to North American coffee!

Thanks for taking us on your trip. I love seeing the ancient ruins and the snow made it all more interesting.
You talked about the Almond tree being the bride of Spring. I think our almond tree is getting ready to bud too. Last spring it was so full of blossoms. I definitely think Spring is on the way.

Glennis είπε...

Some wonderful photos in this story, I especially liked the hidden school photo in the Monastery. Intriguing.
Also I was surprised to see snow falling in Greece.

D Herrod είπε...

Interesting. Looks cold.

Why were the schools secret?

chrome3d είπε...

That was some tour you had there. What a beautiful place fully deserving as many shots as you can take!

Catherine είπε...

Thanks Antigoni, for the explaination about hidden schools. That was one of the most interessant part of post. I love when I learn something new, visiting others.

Reader Wil είπε...

Thank you for your comment. I didn't know that you celebrated the 13th of February a similar story. There are still Christians killed for their love of Jesus.
