MY WORLD TUESDAY: AN EXHIBITION

Last week, Alexandra's class at school made an exhibition with old things.
With things that we don't use any more.
Every student brought something.
From grandparents, grand grandparents and older.
The oldest thing was from 1870 and the newest was from 1950.
Each student read a little story for the things they brought.
The age, the owner, the material and the way people used it.
The kids loved it and the parents, too.
Many thanks and congratulations to the students and their teachers.
Visit http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/ to have a world tour.

Oh that's a great teaching tool.

I have used that ironing device before. It was heavy.

My daughter's school did something like that once. The kids had to reenact a scene from an ancestor's life. It was great for them, and for their parents, to think about family history.

What a wonderful lesson! I see the old irons and remember that we had such an iron in Indonesia filled with burning coals. The photos are very beautful and informative. You asked if I was ok. Yes, thank you, that's very kind of you. I have been busy springcleaning. Every day I clean a cupboard or a bookcase. The attic is done, now the three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, livingroom and utility room. Then I have to wash the curtains and polish the parquet.I want to be ready before Easter!

Those old irons are so cool, I have seen rows of those in old houses. That mandolin, or some other instrument, was so fun as it looked like it was cut in two pieces.

What a great idea! I would have really loved that too. As it is I like browsing antique stores. I can only imagine how much better I'd love it if I could read or hear some stories behind those things.

Oh Antigoni, You were so right. I did love this post. I think my favorite was the black telephone. Just think...I could have sat on that desk and fit right in with all that "old" stuff. :) I love that teacher.

So fun to children int hat way to learn many things about old simply, workful times.
The oldest thing in our house is a candle stick from the orthodox monastery of Valamo. A monck gave it to my father, who was there during WorldwarII. It has a year 1747. I hope, it could tell about those people, who have carried it in their hands during centuries.

Have a nice Wednesday with your lovely family, antigoni!

( I have moved my old posts from Blogger blogs to Wordpress. You can reach it by clicking my name, if you want to see it. I put your kind award there, thank you again about it! ) )

It's an interesting idea. That way children are more concerned, explaining the use of each old thing. There's even objects that I don't know their use.
Classroom looks like an Antiquity shop !

What an amazing collection of items. I was fascinated by the stringed instrument that looks like a folded up guitar. And was that lace hand made? Gorgeous! I'm glad I don't have to use an iron like the old ones on display. The ladies who did use them probably had great strength in their arms. Thanks for the tour!
