On March 25th we celebrate two important things: the Annunciation of Virgin Mary (Ευαγγελισμός της Θεοτόκου) and our indepedence day (Επανάσταση του 1821).
This day the students, the army and the societies do march-past.
The girls participated with the Cretan society of Salamina.
The previous day, the students celebrate these events at school, singing songs, reading Greek poetry and performing school plays.
This year, Olga's class took over the preparation of the celebration, with their teacher.
Olga's part was: the golden pages of Greek History.
In the evening, when i was watching the news, i saw something that brought tears in my eyes.
I saw the Greek Societies all over the world marching with our flag and wearing our traditional costumes.
I felt so proud of them.
I'm very proud of being GREEK ORTHODOX.

From Now and Then.

You should be proud. Greece has a proud history and parts of the culture have spread around the world. Even here in Tulsa a big event every year is the Greek Festival one of the local Orthodox churches has in the Fall.
It sounds almost like the way we celebrate Norway's independence day 17th of May. The only difference is that we don't have the military in our parades, it's the childrens day mainly, they parade in their finest costumes, carry flags and sing. And they're allowed to eat as much icecream they want. This year my family is celebrating it differently: we're going to Greece! (Rhodos) Hurrah!
Right you are! This is so beautiful to celebrate as a country! Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

Seems to remain a great Day.
I imagine how watching your people all over the world can bring a feeling of proudness.
Learning this feeling to young children is very important. To make children and expatriates have a feeling of living identity.
